The Neon Demon
Working with Nicolas Winding Refn and CGI genius Ben Ib, we created the front and end credit sequences for The Neon Demon. Working to a score by Cliff Martinez, the front sequence had to be fluffy and classy with a glossy fashion aesthetic, but also allude to the impending darkness. We achieved this by working through an array of colours, changing the mood as we go, eventually culminating in an overpowering curtain of glitter that seemed somehow both beautiful and dangerous.
The end sequence had to still have a sense of the cosmetic, but this time we wanted to go much darker. Built entirely in CGI, we chose to simulate a deathly female body being gradually covered in makeup. Once you see the film, the reason will become clear.
